Black confederates served
African Americans served in a regiment in the Confederate army late in the Civil War, Richmond VA. Writer Scott William argued that there were tens of thousands of freed and enslaved African Americans serving as cooks teamsters, and personal servants. The first African American regiment was established just one month before the war was over. It is unusual that African Americans would fight in the Confederate army because slavery would prevent them from fulfilling the American Dream ("Black Confederates served").
